Emergency
Basement floor drain backup after heavy rain
PlumbWorks GTA Team•Sep 14, 2025•6 min read
When a storm hits and the floor drain starts to bubble, it is a sign the line is under pressure. Stop running water in the house and keep the basement clear. That gives the line the best chance to recover.
If you have a backwater valve, check that it is closing properly. A stuck flap can cause water to back up even when the main line is clear. A quick clean once or twice a year keeps it moving.
If water is already rising, call right away. It is not just about the mess. Sewage water can damage flooring and drywall fast, and drying it properly matters for health and insurance.
