The gurgle that will not quit: what your drains are telling you

A gurgle after the shower does not always mean a full clog, but it is your plumbing asking for attention. In older Toronto homes, a slow drain can pull air through nearby traps, and you hear that bubble. If the sound shows up in more than one fixture, it is often a sign that the main line is getting tight.

Try a quick check: run the bathroom sink while you flush the toilet. If the water level dips or you hear a deep gulp, you might be dealing with poor venting or a partial blockage. Start with the easy wins: clear hair from the strainer, rinse the stopper, and avoid dumping grease down the kitchen sink. That small routine prevents most repeat calls we get in winter.

If the gurgle turns into a slow backup or you smell sewage, stop running water and call. A short camera inspection is cheaper than a cleanup, and it keeps the floor dry.
